Applesauce Brownies

1 cup Brown Sugar » firmly packed
1/2 cup Butter » or margarine
2 large Eggs
1 cup Applesauce
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 cup All-purpose Flour
1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup Walnuts » chopped
Prep Time Process Time Overall Time
15 Minutes 35 Minutes 50 minutes
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F / 180°C / Gas Mark 4

- Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

1. In large bowl, cream together brown sugar and butter or margarine.

2. Add eggs and mix well.

3. Stir in applesauce and vanilla; blend thoroughly.

4. Stir in flour, unsweetened cocoa, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well.

5. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

6. Pour into the prepared baking pan and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 25 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

7. Remove from the oven and cool.

8. Just before serving, dust the top of the brownies with powder sugar, if you like.

9. Cut into squares and serve.
