For this recipe, you can substitute beef stock for the bear stock.
1. Marinate: Place the bear roast, bear stock (or beef stock), sliced onions, salt, dried oregano, dried basil, and paprika into a deep bowl. Cover tightly and store in the refrigerator to marinate overnight.
2. Transfer: Remove the dish from the refrigerator the next morning and pour all the contents, including the entire liquid marinade and onions, directly into your slow cooker.
3. Simmer: Secure the lid onto the crock pot, set the temperature dial to low, and let the mixture cook continuously for approximately 6 hours.
4. Bake: Alternatively, if a slow cooker is unavailable, arrange all the components together inside a heavy roasting pan, cover tightly, and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F for 6 hours.
5. Test: Pierce the center of the bear meat using a standard dinner fork; if it glides out effortlessly and feels tender, your wild game roast is fully cooked and ready.
6. Take your time with the slow cook; you will be incredibly proud of this dish!
When making ice cream at home, chill the ice cream mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator before churning. This helps prevent ice crystals and makes sure you end with a smoother texture. Taking the time to cool your mixture can make the difference between good and great homemade ice cream.
