- Reserve 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter for the bread crumbs.
- Butter 1-quart baking dish, set aside.
1. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process.
2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in heavy saucepan.
3. Blend in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
4. Pour in milk gradually and cook, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
5. Add salt, pepper and cheddar cheese.
6. Stir until cheese is melted.
7. Add previously cooked macaroni and transfer to the prepared baking dish.
8. Combine bread crumbs with the remaining melted butter.
9. Mix to coat the bread crumbs and sprinkle over the macaroni.
10. Bake in the preheated 350°F oven for 30 minutes.
11. Serve hot.
