1. Peel and mash garlic with the side of a large knife.
2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, butter, parsley, chili powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt until well blended.
3. Cut a loaf of Italian bread in half lengthwise.
4. With a pastry brush, spread butter mixture on all sides of the bread.
5. Loosely wrap in foil and bake in a preheated 450°F oven until hot and toasted, about 20 minutes.
6. Try this recipe with other herbs or different kinds of chili powder.
